The monument Plötzensee is a place of remembrance of all victims to the days of national socialism. The prison was continuously constructed from 1869 to 1879 into several brick house entities surrounded by a six meters high wall. These walls witnessed the execution of 3.000 people in the period of 1933 to 1945. 1951 The “execution shed” was separated from the Institution of Justice and transformed into a monument. The building is divided into two rooms. In one the executions were held and in the other you find the exhibition documenting the national socialistic “praxis of justice”.
A stone urn in the courtyard symbolizes once again all the victims who have lost their lives here.
