Kihachiro Onitsuka had already witnessed quite something as he decided to begin a new life phase at age 31. The second world war was over and the formal soldier was devastated about the depression and lack of prospects for all young people of his age.
Yet he was of the determined opinion that sports would contribute a great deal to the reestablishment of the Japanese society and people and strengthen their optimism.
With this in the back of his mind he began his works on the first sports shoe in a small studio in Kobe. Shortly after he founded the Onitsuka Co. Ltd which within that same year developed into the 5th biggest sportswear manufacturer of the world. Today known under the name ASICS.
The deciding slogan of Kihachiro Onitsuka was that the perfect sports shoe can only be developed within a continuous dialogue and exchange between manufacturer and athlete.
The Japanese principle being pursuit of perfection has so brought forth the most innovative and functional sports shoes world wide.
