Checkpoint Charlie was the best- known border crossing in Berlin.
The Museum Haus am Checkpoint Charlie opened in 1963 with an exhibition on the Berlin Wall.
It exhibits original objects from both successful and unsuccessful attempts to escape, ranging from hot- air balloons to a small submarine.
It also documents the history of the world- wide non- violent struggle for human rights and of liberation movements.
